Student work experience blog
17th July 2026
This week, I had the privilege of undertaking a week of work experience at Corbett Le Quesne, where I gained valuable insight into the world of family law and the day-to-day responsibilities of legal practitioners. The experience provided an excellent opportunity to develop my understanding of the legal sector, while observing the high standards of professionalism and organisation that are essential within the industry.
Throughout the placement, I completed tasks such as drafting wills and LPA’s, learning about the specific French terms that are used in Jersey Law and the process behind probate. Prior to my placement, I had largely associated the profession with courtroom advocacy; however, I quickly learned that much of a solicitor’s work takes place behind the scenes through analysis, drafting and communication.
One of the highlights was having the opportunity to assist with legal research on cases, enabling me to put the knowledge I had learnt into practice. This research provided a valuable understanding of how solicitors analyse legal issues, examine previous case law, and apply legal principles to support their clients.
Thank you to the whole team for taking the time to share their knowledge and making this week a positive and memorable experience.
