The charity has said

"With 2024 being another extremely hard year for the homeless community and people affected by poverty, the Shelter Trust is supporting more people than ever before. Indeed, over the past 12 months, the Shelter Trust has accommodated more than 500 individuals, provided help and support to more than 700 people in need, supplied 40,000 bed nights of accommodation and served more than 90,000 meals.

With such demand on our services, we are delighted to be able to hold our annual Tinathon event at West's Centre on Friday 4th October 2024, between 8.00am and 2.30pm.

The idea of the Tinathon is that we urge banks, finance companies, accountants, law firms, businesses, schools, churches etc., to ask each of their employees, pupils and members of their congregation to donate one or more tins of food to this event - If necessary, committee members and helpers will collect donated tins of food from businesses, schools etc. during the 3 days prior to the main event.

The culmination of the idea is to collect all the tins from businesses, schools, churches etc. and to receive donations from individuals attending the event then display them in West's Centre before they are sorted, packed and removed to remote sites for storage prior to use by the Shelter Trust.
