Pride Month is an annual celebration for the LGBTQ+ community.

It started with the 1969 Stonewall Riots in New York, which marked a turning point in the LGBTQ+ rights movement. Pride Month is now a time for queer people and allies to celebrate diverse sexual identities and advocate for equal rights.

It is our duty as lawyers to ensure that all members of society are treated equally under the law. In our role we can help to promote equality and combat discrimination. We want our clients to feel confident that we will support and accept LGBTQ+ identities.

As a firm we value inclusivity, equality and freedom of expression. Our staff are very welcoming to all and ensure everyone coming to us is treated with respect. It is very important to us that our clients feel safe and cared for.

In 2019, in her capacity as a Law Commissioner, Barbara Corbett assisted policy makers draft instructions in respect of amendments to the Children Law and Marriage and Civil Status Laws in Jersey in relation to parentage, particularly for same-sex couples. Barbara’s campaigning led to the Jersey Law Commission instructing Marisa Allman to write the topic paper on parentage and surrogacy. That paper formed the basis of the proposed amendments to the law which have finally been drafted and debated. The changes will be coming into effect this year. Barbara won the DIFERA Ally of the Year Award 2023 for her contribution toward reforming the law to provide better equality for LGBTQ+ parents in particular. She is an expert in adoption and surrogacy law as well.
