Advocate Barbara Corbett has been recognised once again by Citywealth in their Powerwomen Awards 2024. Barbara has been shortlisted for Woman of the Year - Jersey.

You can contact Barbara via e-mail on barbara.corbett@corbettlequesne.com

The Awards aim is to recognise individuals and firms who maximise the potential of women in wealth, thereby creating a platform for good practice to collectively exercise positive social influence in the sector.  Barbara has previously been awarded the Editor’s Choice Award at the Citywealth Powerwomen Awards and been shortlisted for the Inspirational Woman of the Year Award.

Barbara Corbett is Senior Partner at Corbett Le Quesne. She is a founding member of Women in Family Law and is passionate about supporting career opportunities and development for women, particularly within the legal profession.  Barbara entered the profession relatively late in life, having dedicated herself to raising her five children after completing a law degree in her early 20s. When her youngest children (twins) went to school she went back to University and gained an LLM in Welfare and Child Law, before completing her Legal Practice Course (LPC) and starting her legal career in family law, aged 37. She has supported several women at Corbett Le Quesne who started working in administrative roles and are now taking their legal exams.

Barbara is a Jersey Law Commissioner, Deputy Chair of the Income Support and Medical Appeal Tribunals and Trustee of the St Helier Youth and Community Trust. She is a member of the Jersey Children Panel and the Mental Health Review Tribunal Panel. Barbara is passionate about helping people, regularly undertaking significant pro-bono work in the week and at weekends. She has assisted many clients internationally with child abduction and relocation cases as well as being involved in many HNW/UHNW international divorces with trusts and complicated family issues.

Barbara commented “I am very pleased to be shortlisted for this award. I was very proud to be involved in founding Women in Family Law and we are working on an event for them at our conference next month. We are very supportive of flexible working hours for parents at Corbett Le Quesne. One member of staff works term time only and another works short days to enable her to collect her daughter from school. We also started a four day week recently to help support a better work life balance for all of our employees. I believe that if more companies could be more flexible and accommodating it would benefit everyone, including our clients and the community in general.”
