Family Mediation Week will take place between the 22nd and the 26th of January. The aim of the initiative is to raise awareness of family mediation and of the benefits it can bring to separating families.

Mediation can save a lot of money and heartache and clients have more control than when they go to court and the judge decides their fate.

Advocate Barbara Corbett is the most well qualified and experienced family lawyer in Jersey. She has been a qualified civil and commercial mediator since 2007 and a family mediator for over 10 years.  She is also qualified to mediate directly with children.

Advocate Corbett commented “I have gained these additional qualifications over the years because it is so important to me to help people find common ground and feel invested in their own solutions. It is not always possible but when people come to see me and mediation looks viable I encourage them to resolve as many issues as possible in this way.”

She continued “There is a fantastic free service offered by the Family Foundation. This is an alternative dispute resolution service that the Family Division of the Royal Court provide. It aims to help Jersey families who are struggling to resolve disputes about money or children arising from the breakdown of a relationship. You can e-mail familyfoundation@courts.je for more information.”

Family Mediation Week is organised by the Family Mediation Council (FMC) whose website is: www.familymediationcouncil.org.uk.  Throughout the week the FMC and its member organisations will be promoting family mediation to members of the public and other professionals working with separating families.

Corbett Le Quesne offer free 30 minute information sessions. If you are interested in their mediation services and have some questions, e-mail enquiries@corbettlequesne.com or call 733030. You can also contact Family Mediation Jersey www.fmj.je
